3: Working Together to Safeguard Children
3.1.1 Paediatricians have responsibilities when a child is in need of help, services or at potential risk of suffering significant harm. Paediatricians should understand the statutory provisions, when a child may be a Child in Need, how to act when they believe a child is suffering or likely to suffer significant harm and when and how to make a referral to children’s social care.
3.1.2 The statutory guidance for safeguarding in England is Working Together to Safeguard Children (2013)62. Those working in Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales are advised to consult their own statutory documents.
