Please note that we expect to update this chapter again within the next six months following the expected publication of new statutory guidance in England. We will also be looking to update the information for Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales to ensure all four nations are represented comprehensively.
3.1.1. Paediatricians have responsibilities when a child is in need of help, services or at potential risk of suffering significant harm1. Paediatricians should understand the statutory provisions, when a child may be a Child in Need, and how to act when they believe a child is suffering or likely to suffer significant harm and when and how to make a referral to children’s social care.
